What is the purpose of this website?

Artist Ovation is an online music community developed to help Artists reach a broader audience. This website will be visited by Christian Festival Directors, talent scouts, industry reps, and other music lovers looking to find the next great artist.

How can I use Artist Ovation site?

Artist Ovation offers users three different options for joining the community.

1. Artists can join the AO community by uploading an artist profile to the site. This will allow them to post multiple songs as well as upload other materials such as an artist picture and bio.
2. Fans can join the AO community by simply registering. This will allow them access to rate their favorite artists.
3. Artists can find an Artist Ovation festival competition to participate in. In 2007 Artist Ovation will be partner with 17 Christian music festivals from all over the nation. By joining an Artist Ovation festival competition artists will automatically be listed in the ArtisOvation.com community.

What are the participating festival competitions?

Each festival will be running a custom competition format meaning each competition will have a different number of winners as well as different prize packages. You can get information about each festival competition by going to the specific festival Artist Ovation website and clicking on the contest info link. Below is a list of Artist Ovation festival competitions offered in 2007.

The 1st place winner from each festival competition is automatically a finalist in the national Artist Ovation competition. Finalists in the national competition will compete to win a recording contract from one of the biggest Christian Music Labels in the industry – Word Label Group.

How do I join a competition?

1. Go to the specific festival competition site in which you are interested. You can find a list of participating festivals in the left column. An active link indicates that the festival has a competition currently running.
2. If you already have a username and password to Artist Ovation, login.
3. Click on the ENTER COMPETITION graphic in the middle of the home page. If you are logged in, you will be taken to your artist profile otherwise you will be taken to the user registration page.
4. Fill out the artist form. If you had already filled out the Artist Profile on the Artist Ovation site, you will see all of your information. You may edit the information as needed. When you are done, click the NEXT button.
5. Upload the song that you are entering into the contest. If you already have a song (or songs) uploaded and want to use one, click the select link next to the song. The green checkmark means that the song has been selected. Click the NEXT button.
6. Fill out the credit card information form and click the NEXT button (your card will NOT be charged until your application is approved by the festival committee).
7. Review your entry information. If you need to make changes you may click the PREVIOUS button or go directly to the page you want to change by clicking on a breadcrumb link at the top of the form. If everything looks good, click the FINISH button.
8. The festival committee will review your application and make sure that it is complete and meets their requirements. You will get an email indicating that your application was approved or rejected. If approved, your credit card will be charged the entry fee. If your application gets rejected, you may make any necessary changes and reapply in the same manner.

That's it! You may enter as many competitions as you want. Remember, if you are in a competition, do NOT hide your profile or it will disappear from the competition site and no one will be able to rate your band.

What is the national Artist Ovation competition?

The national Artist Ovation competition will be comprised of 17 finalists which are the winners from each Artist Ovation festival competition. The finalists will be invited to participate in a live competition in Nashville Tennessee.

How do I get into the National Artist Ovation competition?

You must be the grand prize winner of one of the 17 festival competitions to qualify for the national competition.

How do I rate Artists?

Once you are logged in, you may rate an artist from one of two places: the browse page or the artist's profile.

To vote on the artist' profile, look at the bottom where the song list is diplayed. You will see the heading "Your rating:". If you have already rated the artist, you will see a number of stars equal to the rating you gave them, otherwise you will see 5 circles. Hover your mouse pointer over a circle and stars will appear. You then click on the circle that corresponds to the number of stars you want to rate the song. The rating scale is 1 = "Hated it!" to 5 = "Loved it!".

To vote on the browse page you follow the same procedure. Simply hover over the circle that shows the number of stars that you want to give the song and click. You may change your rating for any song at any time.

How are ratings calculated?

Artist Ovation publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages.  Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at 'vote stuffing' by individuals more interested in changing the current rating of an artist than giving their true opinion of it.  The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.

Why don't I have a rating?

In order to be fair and provide an effective weighted average that is not easily manipulated by unscrupulous voting methods, Artist Ovation's rating calculation incorporates a minimum vote requirement.  If you do not have an average rating then your media has not met that threshold.

Does the average rating indicate how I am doing in a competition?

Not necessarily. The rating provided on the site is meant to indicate an overall picture of how an Artist's media is viewed SITE WIDE and across all media. Contest entries are calculated individually and only over the period during which the competition is open to public rating.
